TARDY POLICY
Students are expected to arrive at school and to each class period on time and prepared to learn. Tardies are tracked separately for each of the eight class periods, including homeroom.
- The first three tardies to a particular class period will not result in a consequence.
- Beginning with the fourth tardy to the same class period, the student will be assigned lunch detention. Each subsequent tardy to that class will result in an additional lunch detention.
- Students assigned to lunch detention will report to the designated detention room at the beginning of their scheduled lunch. The lunch period will be used for homework, assignments, or other academic work. Once the lunch line has cleared, students will be permitted to obtain their lunch and eat in the detention room.
- Excused tardies do not count toward the class-period tardy limit.
- School administration reserves the right to assign additional consequences for excessive or persistent tardiness, including in-school suspension or restorative community service, as appropriate and as agreed upon with the student's parent/guardian. If the restorative community service option is declined, in-school or out-of-school suspension may be assigned at the discretion of school administration.
Event Eligibility
This day-to-day tardy policy outlined above is separate from, but concurrently enforced with, the Event Eligibility Policy. Tardies are also tracked across all classes combined and may affect a student's eligibility to attend designated school social events according to the attendance and tardy thresholds outlined in the Event Eligibility Policy below.
Students and parents/guardians may monitor attendance and tardy records through PowerSchool.
EVENT ELIGIBILITY
1. Student Attendance and School Event Participation
- Students who exceed the tardy limit will be temporarily restricted from attending after-school social events until they are back in good standing.
- Restrictions apply to all social events outside the regular school day (e.g., dances, activity nights, celebrations). Athletic events and academic competitions are not included.
- Once students demonstrate improvement by reducing tardies and meeting attendance expectations, participation will be restored.
Eligibility Standard:
- Rolling 30-Day Rule: Students with more than 5 unexcused tardies (across all classes combined) in the 30 calendar days before an event are not eligible to attend.
- Semester Limit: Students with 15 or more unexcused tardies in a semester are not eligible for the remainder of that semester’s dances and after-school social events.
Notes:
- Excused tardies (late bus, documented medical/dental appointment, approved emergencies) do not count toward limits.
- Tardy totals reset at the start of each semester.
- Students may check their attendance records in PowerSchool.
- Appeals may be submitted for extenuating circumstances.
2. Academic Standing for Assembly Attendance
Eligibility Standard:
- Any student with two or more failing grades (F) at the grade check conducted the Monday prior to an assembly will attend a study hall period instead of the assembly.
- Students who raise their grades above failing before the event will regain eligibility to attend.
Notes:
- The Academic Support Period provides a structured environment for completing assignments, receiving teacher support, and improving grades.
- Grade checks occur the Monday prior to an assembly.
- Written appeals may be submitted for extenuating circumstances to the principal’s office at least two school days prior to the event.
- Students with disabilities whose academic performance is impacted by their condition may qualify for accommodations consistent with IDEA and Section 504.
